A recap of the problem being addressed
-
What is the current performance or state? What is the desired performance or state?
The current performance: Student organizations do not know how to use the online platform Hornet life.
The desired performance: Student organizations can be familiar with and use the online platform Hornet life to complete their work.
-
What caused the gap/discrepancy?
Because data collection has not yet been done, here are several possibilities:
1. Student organizations do not know how to use Hornet Life because they have not participated in the training and do not know how to operate.
2. They don’t have time to use Hornet Life.
3. They are not willing to use Hornet Life.
4. The process of using Hornet Life is so complicated that they are unwilling to use Hornet Life.
Description of Audience
Student organizations are student groups that are spontaneously established by students based on common interests and hobbies to manage themselves and serve students. The student organization is an important part of campus culture, with distinctive features such as professionalism, autonomy, communication, and interaction.
Training strategy
In this case, I think we should start by analyzing the existing problems. I intend to collect information by using questionnaires and interviews.
Among the various ISD models I have learned, I think the ADDIE Model is a model that can quickly solve this problem. ADDIE is a very rigorous linear instructional design model, while using ADDIE model, objectives and goals are neatly organized and clearly defined. Therefore, I think ADDIE is suitable for this project.
Meanwhile, I will also use the ARCS Model to attract audiences' attention, because in multimedia training, attracting audiences' attention is a very critical step.
According to "ARCS Model of Motivational Design Theories (Keller)," (2014),
"Attention can be gained in two ways: (1) Perceptual arousal – uses surprise or uncertainly to gain interest. Uses novel, surprising, incongruous, and uncertain events; or (2) Inquiry arousal– stimulates curiosity by posing challenging questions or problems to be solved. "
I will also use Mayer's Multimedia Principle to complete the entire multimedia training module design. The main strategies I will take are to use multimedia-specific vision and hearing to attract students' attention, like add interactive links in the process. According to Richard E. Mayer(2009), People learn better from words and pictures than from words alone. This means, in multimedia design, text and images should be presented at the same time, not just text.
Instructional technology
I am going to use web-based technology to design and develop instructional modules for student organizations. More precisely, it should be online asynchronous instruction videos. I think by this way, I can make instructional modules more attractive to increase student organizations’ learning interest.
Timeline
Milestones:
Week 1—Analysis and Objectives
Weeks 2—Traning Setting
Weeks 3—Content Design
Weeks 4—Multimedia Design
Weeks 5— Quiz Design
Weeks 6— Interaction Design
Weeks 7-8 — Gathering Content
completion of the instructional product:
This project will be completed in 8 weeks.
Evaluation plan for the program
Student organizations will be required to participate in the online training module. Before they participate in the training, a representative from each student organization will be selected to participate in the pre-training test and the test results will be recorded. After all student organizations have completed the training, another representative is selected to participate in the Hornet Life operational test. The assessment results will be recorded in the student's personal performance assessment.
Funding and any staffing requirements
Because this training process will be presented as a multimedia course, there is no design funding issue during the design process. In the final implementation phase, all audiences will be required to be able to access this course.
Conclusion
This training module aims to improve the familiarity of the student organizations with Hornet Life and guide them on how to use Hornet Life to complete daily tasks. The final training form will be presented in multimedia asynchronous instruction. In the process of instructional design, the ADDIE Model and ARCS Model are mainly used, and the main teaching theory is Mayer's Multimedia Principle.
